Driving License
Top Star Driving School in Oakville will take you through the appropriate steps in properly obtaining each driver’s license in Ontario. This can be easily achieved by attending GLD’s driver license classes.
In Ontario, you must be at least 16 years old to obtain a licence. In April 1994, Ontario implemented graduated licensing. You must complete three phases in order to obtain your license.
In the first step, you get a Driver's Handbook, which is accessible at any bookstore, convenience shop, MTO facility, and other sites. Then, on or after your 16th birthday, and after studying the handbook, you can travel to the nearest Ministry of Transportation office and take a theoretical G1 exam. You must have $125.00 in cash and two pieces of identification. Once you pass the exam, you will be given a G1 license and you will be eligible to do a practical road test one year from that date.
RULES UNDER HAVING A G1 LICENSE
Under a G1 license, many conditions apply which are designed to help you gain experience before you can actually do your road test. These are discussed below and are also covered in the driver’s handbook.
Anytime you are behind the wheel, you must be accompanied by a driver who has at least 4 years of G class driving experience.
You are prohibited from driving from 12 am to 5 am in the morning.
You are prohibited from driving on any highways with posted speed limits of 80 km or above including all the any of the 400 series highways, unless you are accompanied by a licensed driving instructor.
You must maintain a blood alcohol level of 0.00% at all times.
You must not have more passengers in your car than the seat belts.
After obtaining a G1 permit, you are eligible to shorten the waiting period for your first road test from 12 months to 8 months if you attend an authorised driving course such as ours. After this time has passed, you will be able to take your first road test.
After passing the initial road test after 8 or 12 months, you are issued a G2 licence. There are some circumstances here, although they are significantly less than G1 conditions. These are addressed in the driver's handbook. When preparing for your G2 or G license, getting a private driving instructor can be ideal in accelerating the process and properly understanding the driving rules.

Defensive Driving
This section addresses numerous common misunderstandings about ordinary traffic and driving in general. After completing this introductory portion, students should have a thorough understanding of the requirements for obtaining a learner's permit, as well as the fundamental structure for the Smith System of Defensive Driving. THE SMITH SYSTEM
The Smith System is the industry standard in defensive driver training systems. It consists of the “Five Keys to Space Cushion Driving.” This program covers improving driver perception to create safer drivers, keeping space around your vehicle (no more ‘traffic roulette’,) what good driving practices are, creating good seeing habits and improving driver visibility. Hazard Recognition, Perception and Management: Students learn to identify hazards and discuss ways to manage them so that they are no longer hazards to them on the road.

Brake & Avoid
At Top Star Driving School in Oakville, we strive to provide our students with the highest quality on-road instruction possible. To ensure their safety on the road, we provide an emergency technique package in addition to the ordinary course's fundamental 10 hours. We are the only MTO approved driving school in Canada, aside from Young Drivers, that provides this option to their students. The program will include two full hours of teaching covering the following techniques.
Recovery from Gravel Shoulder
If the car wanders onto a gravel shoulder, the student must learn to recover and control it.
Avoidance of Direct Contact
As in the previous move, students are taught how to avoid cars passing from the other lane into their lane in this manoeuvre. This will help the student to avoid a head-on collision.
Avoidance of Rear Crash
The student is taught how to properly react to an automobile coming up behind them. The emphasis is on hand over hand steering as well as being mindful of their blind areas.
Swerving to Avoid
The student is taught how to react appropriately to an object that has just fallen into their path at 40km/h. The emphasis is on appropriate steering and keeping one's eyes forward.
ABS Emergency Stop/Threshold Braking
The goal of the method is for the student to stop as fast as possible utilising the best braking technique available without the brakes locking up. Avoiding locking the brakes will keep the automobile from skidding and will bring it to a stop more quickly and effectively.
With this technique, students are still using the threshold braking method, but they are approaching the object pylons at a quicker speed (60 km/h) and will not be able to stop in time, so to avoid hitting the object, they must choose an escape route (Left or Right) and swerve.
PROCEDURE AND FEES
All of our sessions are taught by trained professionals. The majority of the lesson will take place in a parking lot with pylons as impediments in the driver's path; however, gravel shoulder recovery will take place on the road ONLY when it is safe to do so. The bundle is $200 + HST and includes all of the fundamental moves outlined above.
We emphasize that every student think about devoting extra time and money to learning these techniques since it might help them become a safer and more careful driver. All payments for this package should be paid in advance in order for us to better serve you.
